Programs
We deliver clothes, toys and school supplies to needy children
so they can experience a community that cares!

Our Programs

Communities That Care is dedicated to serving the under-resourced community in the Chicagoland area.  Our purpose is to provide for children and families in need by distributing resources that the families could not otherwise provide for themselves.  Our programs deliver goods that are necessary for day to day life, that stimulate creativity and active play, and that provide educational needs.

Back to School Program

Providing backpacks and school supplies to start the new school year of right.

Holiday Gift Program

Providing clothes, toys and gifts to bring hope and joy to the holidays and make it memorable.

Birthday Buddy Program

Providing goodie bags with toys and treats so children feel special on their birthday.

Back to School Program

Providing backpacks and school supplies
for needy children

The Back-To-School Program provides Backpack Kits with a new backpack and school supplies to low income students grade 1- 8 who need encouragement and inspiration to start and stay in school.  Many of these children have little or no school supplies to start the new school year.   They simply do without, or the burden falls on the teachers who resort to using their own funds.
How it works
This program works by distributing Back to School Tags with a grade level and school supply list  to participating Host companies in July.  The Tags represent one of three grade levels: grades 1-3, grades 4-6 and grades 7-8.  Employees, members and patrons choose a tag and purchase a backpack and school supplies to complete a Backpack Kit for a needy student.  Communities That Care distributes the filled backpacks in August to the children in time for the first day of school.  For some children, receiving their backpack is the highlight of the school year!

Holiday Gift Program

Providing toys, clothes and gifts to underprivileged youth to bring hope and joy.

The Holiday Gift Program is a giving tree program hosted by businesses, corporations, and other organizations wanting to make a difference in the community.  This program provides low income children from 0-12 years old, with toys, clothes and other gifts that make children feel special and help them experience the true joy and excitement of the holidays.
How it works
In November, participating Host sites receive gift tags provided by Communities That Care that have a specific child’s name, age, gender, size and most desired gift wish.  The employees, patrons and members of your organization choose a tag, purchase a gift and return it to the Host Coordinator.   Communities That Care collects the gifts in December for distribution to the children. This program is a great community builder for your organization and a great way to bring something positive to today’s world.  Please join us in helping to make every child’s holiday wish come true!

Birthday Buddy Program

Providing goodie bags with toys and treats so children feel special on their birthday

The Birthday Buddy Program benefits underprivileged  children  who are facing difficult circumstances and wish for nothing more than to be acknowledged on their special day.  We have the unique opportunity to remember a child on their birthday and build a child’s self esteem through the recognition
and celebration of their life.
How it works
This program provides goodie bags for needy children on their birthday. Goodie bags are filled with treats and toys such as small cars, puzzles, bubbles, balls, activity books, crayons, pencils, and much more. Goodies bags are delivered in August and December to our partner agencies who distributes the goodie bags to the children on their birthday.
